BATU PAHAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency confiscated a fibreglass boat and contraband cigarettes worth more than RM100,000 during a patrol at Kuala Batu Pahat, here.

Batu Pahat zone MMEA director Maritime Commander Mohd Haniff Mohd Yunus said a patrol team was conducting surveillance under Ops Jaksa and Ops Tipis when they came across a boat in a suspicious condition at 4.30am on Saturday (Aug 5).

"The patrol team noticed a boat without a registration number at 0.35 nautical miles South-East of Parit Haji Salam, here.

"Inspection revealed that the boat had been abandoned by the skipper and crew.

"The team then found 13 large boxes that contain contraband cigarettes from Indonesia that are believed to be going to be sold at the local market," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Aug 5).

The boat, along with the cigarettes, was estimated to be worth around RM117,920 and had been brought to the Batu Pahat Maritime Zone office for further action.
