Making fundamental fixes in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional candidates in the Kelantan state election have pledged to solve long-standing issues that have been plaguing the state for decades.

Amanah’s Kota Lama candidate Dr Hafidzah Mustakim said she wanted to improve her constituency’s economic condition and bring stability.

“We want to bring forward the Federal Government’s initiatives to eradicate poverty, improve the economy, create more job opportunities, and improve the infrastructure here.

“This is in line with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s vision of eradicating poverty by this year,” she said when met at Pasar Siti Khadijah here on Sunday.

Dr Hafidzah said infrastructure issues in Kelantan needed to be dealt with urgently, especially the drainage system.

“According to statistics, only one in three households here manage their rubbish properly, while in Penang, 80% of the people do it.”

Dr Hafidzah said the water supply issues that have been plaguing the state for decades must be resolved immediately, despite attempts by certain quarters to play down the problem.

Dr Hafidzah said if she is voted in as the representative for Kota Lama, she also plans to look into the high cost of living.

“The Federal Government will help us, and this is proven through their Payung Rahmah and Menu Rahmah initiatives that helped lower the cost of living nationwide.”

She also pledged to protect the sanctity of Islam and Malay Muslims, quelling doubts that locals might be sidelined under the Pakatan-Barisan administration.

The Amanah candidate for Pengkalan Pasir, Rushdan Mustafa, also made a similar pledge, saying he would focus on resolving the water supply issue and will administer his constituency fairly.

The Umno candidate for the Tendong seat, Noor Hariri Mohamed Nor, said he is determined to resolve issues affecting the youth, such as drug abuse, bullying, and mental health.
