AirAsia joins Payung Rahmah initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: Consumers at selected areas in the Klang Valley stand a chance to pay just RM1 for AirAsia rides of RM5 and above beginning yesterday.

This comes after Capital A, which manages the airasia Superapp, participated in the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s Payung Rahmah initiative. The promotion will cover five locations, namely Putrajaya and Cyberjaya, Bukit Bintang, Bandar Sunway, Bangsar South and Mont Kiara.

It is valid for the first 3,000 customers using the service daily, with the promotion period beginning noon from Mondays to Fridays. The promotion applies to rides with a fare of at least RM5 and is done as support for the ministry’s Payung Rahmah initiative.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said other initiatives under the airasia Superapp include discount codes for flight tickets to international destinations or hotels worldwide.

“Those who successfully claim the RM1 promo rides will be eligible for the ‘Ride, Fly and Stay’ Rahmah package, where they will receive a RAHMAH50 promo code to get a RM50 discount on flights booked through the Superapp to any international destination.

“Entering the RAHMAH50 promo code will also generate a RM50 discount on hotel bookings worldwide. Both initiatives are applicable to the first 100 transactions daily,” Salahuddin said when launching the Payung Rahmah initiative together with AirAsia Superapp here yesterday.

All three promotions are valid until Sept 30.

Salahuddin commended the initiatives, noting how companies, including Capital A, provided initiatives that exceeded what was requested by the government.

“The ministry is committed to ensuring that all Malaysians are shielded from the rising cost of living and uncertain living situations today. We also support efforts by industry players to give added value to consumers,” he added.Capital A chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the RM1 AirAsia rides are set to benefit nearly 200,000 people, especially students at schools and universities in the selected locations.

“We hope this will enable more people to enjoy seamless transportation experiences without compromising their budget,” he said.

Separately, Salahuddin said that business entities were not compelled to join the Payung Rahmah initiative.

“There’s no need to make it compulsory. When we intended to begin the Payung Rahmah initiative, we had engagements with industry players that focus on helping those burdened by the cost of living.

“Many industry players offered to help, which saw Menu Rahmah beginning. There are also smaller operators carrying out the Menu Rahmah initiative who make a profit by focusing on the volume of sales,” he said during a press conference after the event.

The initiative then progressed to other industries such as clothing boutiques and even healthcare companies, he added.

“Although there are concerns that these measures are temporary, the Payung Rahmah programme, however, has continued receiving all-round support from industry players,” he said.

Salahuddin revealed that 3,557 companies had registered to participate in the Jualan Rahmah initiative nationwide, with 2,995 operators carrying out the Menu Rahmah initiative at present.
