Tour bus driver, passenger killed in highway crash


NILAI: The driver of a tour bus and a passenger were killed instantly after the vehicle crashed into a pillar at KM285.3 of the North South Expressway.

Nilai deputy police chief Dept Supt Mat Ghani Lateh said five passengers sustained serious injuries, with 15 suffering bruises.

He said the bus was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore when the mishap occurred at about 5.25am yesterday.

“The bus crashed into a pillar on the right side of the highway and then collided with a Proton Wira on the left lane,” said DSP Mat Ghani, adding that the driver of the car and his passenger escaped with light injuries.

He said the bus driver was 33 years old and the passenger was a 42-year-old Indonesian woman.

He said there were four Indonesians, three Singaporeans, three Filipinos, two Canadians, and one each from China and Spain, plus five Malaysians on the bus.

DSP Mat Ghani said the injured were sent to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban.
