State polls: PKR to finalise candidates' list by end of the week

KLANG: The PKR leadership is expected to finalise the Selangor candidates' list, for the 20 seats the party will be contesting, by the end of this week.

"The nomination letters will then be given out to the selected candidates the following week," said a PKR insider.

The source also said PKR will contest in 20 Selangor constituencies as opposed to 21 constituencies in the 2018 polls.

"The Kota Damansara seat, which PKR held, will be given to Umno," said the source.

It is not known if the Kota Damansara incumbent Shatiri Mansor will be sent to another constituency or dropped.

There is speculation that he may be sent to Bukit Lanjan as sources say the seat's three-term incumbent Elizabeth Wong may not contest in the upcoming state polls.

The PKR source also said he believed candidates will not be arbitrarily dropped, especially those who enjoy a strong following, as it could threaten the party's political positioning in Selangor.

Apparently, all of the seats under PKR was being audited currently to determine the constituencies', as well as its incumbents, strengths and weaknesses.

This, said the source, was in tandem with Selangor PKR chief Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari's demand that all of the party's candidates contesting in the upcoming state polls must win.

Meanwhile, on the DAP front, all the incumbents are expected to be retained except for one or two.

"We think our Dusun Tua incumbent Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof will be dropped in favour of another Malay candidate from DAP," said a Pakatan insider.

The source was not able to say if the seat has been sacrificed to Umno or was still in DAP's grasp.
