Sabah NRD helps OKU obtain replacement MyKads from home

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah National Registration Department (NRD) reached out to two people with disabilities (OKU) in the Tuaran district to ensure they obtained their replacement MyKads.

NRD staff members went to two villages in the district to process the applications on Tuesday (June 27).

The department conducted the exercise under its Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) programme, which has been in existence since 2017 to, among others, facilitate applications and replacement of identity cards as well as birth and death certificates.

In the first visit, the team went to Kampung Salut to help a 45-year-old applicant who was unable to make the trip to the nearest NRD office.

"After that, the Mekar team assisted a 63-year-old bedridden senior citizen in Bukit Payung," the NRD said in a statement on Wednesday (June 28).

The team took the applicants' biometric thumb prints using a mobile scanner and also used a white cloth as a makeshift backdrop to take their photos.

The families of the applicants conveyed their appreciation for the service provided by the Sabah NRD Mekar team.

"Despite carrying out their duties under challenging circumstances, the Mekar team felt a sense of fulfilment.

"The NRD will continue implementing the Mekar initiative by providing a service directly to people's homes to ensure Sabahans will not be left out from obtaining personal identification documents," it said.
