Tour guide held over alleged death threat to islander in Semporna

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested a tour guide in connection with an alleged death threat against a 28-year-old islander during an argument in Semporna district.

The victim claimed he received the death threat during an argument with several men at a private school managed by a non-governmental organisation at about 10am on Thursday (June 15), according to Semporna district police chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah.

"The incident is believed to have taken place when a group of tour guides were not happy with the victim, who was recording the tourists taking pictures at the scene.

"However, the argument was resolved by the village chief and some of the guides are said to have uttered threatening words (to) the victim," Supt Mohd Farhan said in a statement on Sunday (June 18).

He said police arrested a 29-year-old man to assist in the investigation on Saturday (June 17).

Supt Mohd Farhan said the suspect was being investigated for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

He urged anyone who witnessed the incident to help the police by contacting investigation officer Sarjan Ruslan Hardi Hamil at 016-8050885 or the nearest police station.
