M-cyclist in crash surrenders to police

KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist who went against the flow of traffic, leading to another man’s death, has told police that he had lost his way at the time.

“He was on his way home to Kajang from Ampang on Wednesday but had gotten lost.

“So he decided to enter the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Highway (SUKE) against the flow of traffic,” said Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail.

He then collided with another motorcyclist, who fell from his bike. The motorcyclist, who was in his 60s, died following the mishap on the highway.

ACP Mohd Azam, when contacted yesterday, said the 41-year-old biker had lodged a police report on Friday.

“He said that he only knew about the case after the news came out on TV and social media,” he said.

ACP Mohd Azam said the man is not under arrest for now, noting that he also sustained injuries.

“He suffered a broken shoulder, finger and other injuries on his shoulder and leg,” he said.

His motorcycle had been seized by police.

“No arrest has been made due to his condition. He has serious injuries and is having difficulties walking,” he said.

However, police would take further steps once his condition stabilised, he added.

Six witnesses, including the suspect, had their statements recorded, ACP Mohd Azam said.
