Teenager killed after car hits trailer on NSE near Gopeng

IPOH: An 18-year-old teenager was killed when the car he was travelling in hit a trailer along the North-South Expressway near Gopeng.

His 49-year-old mother and three siblings were injured in the crash.

Kampar OCPD Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said that Muhammad Zweill Haikal Ghazali died at the scene due to head injuries.

He said the car driver was unable to control the vehicle, and had hit the back of the trailer.

Supt Mohamad Nazri said the accident occurred around 7am on Saturday (June 17) at KM301.5 of the expressway heading south, and all victims have been sent to the Tapah Hospital for treatment.

“The car was driven by the victim’s 24-year-old older brother while their mother was seated in the front. The deceased and two other siblings aged 10 and 20 were seated at the back seats,” he said.

“The family was travelling from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to enroll the deceased and the 20-year-old brother at Universiti Malaya Cyberjaya,” added Supt Mohamad Nazri.

He said that the car's driver suffered bleeding to his stomach and is unconscious, while their mother fractured her right thigh.

“The 20-year-old and his younger brother sustained light injuries,” he said, adding that the post-mortem will be conducted at 3pm on Saturday.

Supt Mohamad Nazri said that the 50-year-old trailer driver escaped unhurt.
