Man stabs ex-fiancee eight times over break-up

KOTA KINABALU: A man stabbed his ex-fiancee eight times, killing her as she refused to get back with him.

The 33-year-old suspect, however, probably out of remorse, called the police himself and waited until they arrived at the scene.

The police found that there was also an element of jealousy in the crime.

Kota Kinabalu Deputy OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris said the man had earlier met up with the woman, who works as a shop assistant at a shopping mall in the city centre, at about noon on Monday so that he could persuade her not to end their relationship.

She said, however, that the 22-year-old woman rejected his repeated pleas as she had made up her mind due to personal reasons.

“Because of that, the suspect, who was enraged, stabbed her eight times on the body, which led to her death,” she said in a statement.

“At 12.15pm, the police received a call from a man claiming he had accidentally stabbed his former fiancee with a knife,” she added.Supt Kalsom said a police team was then rushed to the scene, adding they found the woman covered in blood.

“Also found at the location was the suspect, who had been apprehended by a security guard at the mall,” she said.

The police subsequently detained the suspect.

The woman, she said, was still breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene but the victim eventually succumbed to her injuries at 1pm.

“We have recovered the knife believed to have been used in the incident and the body has been sent for an autopsy.

“With the suspect’s arrest, we consider this case solved and we will wrap up the probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder the soonest,” said Supt Kalsom.
