‘Suspects held over fatal stabbing have no honorific title’

MELAKA: None of the nine suspects nabbed in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old scrap metal outlet manager has a honorific title, says Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

He said it was revealed that none was a “Datuk Seri” when a check was done on claims that one of them was an influential businessman.

Some vernacular media had reported that a businessman with the ‘Datuk Seri’ title was remanded along with eight others at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The remand order for seven days was issued by magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman.

The suspects including a woman, aged between 25 and 38.

They were remanded to assist investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. ACP Christopher Patit urged the public not to speculate on the incident as investigation is ongoing.

Among the suspects detained was a 36-year-old, who is married with three children.

He was nabbed with his lover and a bodyguard, when the incident occurred at about 4am on Tuesday.

The deceased had allegedly made a lewd remark to a 26-year-old woman when dining at a stall at Jalan Kenanga off Jalan Tun Perak here at 4am.

ACP Christopher said the victim was found unconscious at the scene.

He was taken to Hospital Melaka for treatment by his friends but succumbed to his injuries minutes later.

He said the initial probe found that the deceased and several friends who were drunk after partying came to the stall for some food and drinks where the victim and two other men got into a fight.

ACP Christopher said the deceased had supposedly made a lewd remark about the size of the woman’s breasts before being confronted by the woman’s bodyguard.

He said the argument then escalated into a fierce fight involving the victim, the bodyguard and her boyfriend.

The post-mortem found the man died of stab wounds.
