KUANTAN: The traffic volume on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) is expected to surge to more than three million vehicles in conjunction with the Aidilfitri holiday, says concessionaire Anih Bhd.
Its senior general manager Radzimah Mohd Radzi said he expects an increase in traffic volume to the east coast from April 19-21, while traffic congestion towards Kuala Lumpur is expected to start from April 24-30 until May 1.
“We hope highway users will plan their journey during this festive and holiday season, as traffic is expected to increase.
“We will issue the travel time advisory at the Gombak, Karak and Bentong toll plazas on April 16, besides posting it on our social media channels as a reference for highway users,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.
Anih suggests that motorists from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor heading to Pahang on April 19-21 travel between 10am and 2pm, or from 8pm to 11 pm, while those headed for Terengganu depart from 6am to 10am, or 8pm to 11pm.
Those headed for Kelantan should also start driving from 6am to 10am, or 5pm to 8pm.Those headed for other destinations should start their journey from midnight to 6am.
For the journey back to the capital on April 24, 25, 30 and May 1, motorists from Pahang are encouraged to enter the expressway from 8am to 1am, or 3pm to 5pm, while those from Terengganu are recommended to enter the Jabor Toll Plaza from 11am to 1pm, or from 6pm to 8pm.
Motorists from Kelantan are advised to enter the Bentong Toll Plaza from 3pm to 5pm, or 10pm to midnight.
The recommended times for express buses heading to east coast destinations to enter the Gombak toll plaza are from 9.30am to noon, and 9.30pm to midnight, with light vehicles advised to avoid entering the expressway at those times.
Meanwhile, Radzimah said Anih is committed to increasing efforts to reduce congestion this festive season, including increasing the number of support staff at the toll plaza by up to 30%.
It is also placing more than 140 Rela members at several strategic areas along the highway, apart from increasing the number of traffic patrol team workers by 20% to ensure smooth traffic throughout the period.
He also reminded motorists to ensure their eWallet and Touch N’Go card balances are sufficient to avoid any problems at toll plazas.
