MELAKA: An app to help prevent and create awareness about crime is being developed by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) here.
National Indian Crime Prevention Society (ICPS) president Datuk Ignatius Lourdsamy said the app will feature an automated detection of cybercrime activities to help people from being deceived by scammers.
The app will also provide information on anti-crime campaigns throughout the country.
“We have engaged youths who are digital savvy from all over the country to provide input on our new app.
“We are also collecting data on online sales scams, trading scams, Macau scams and business email compromise scams to be added into the app’s alert system for users,” he said after handing over 50 school bags to the Negri Sembilan-based En Xin Charity organisation during a dinner organised by ICPS here on Wednesday.
Lourdsamy said the app will use artificial intelligence to iden- tify online scammers who are using fake domains.
“The development of the app is our own initiative and we will provide more details after carrying out a dry run.
“ICPS is planning to launch the app in Kuala Lumpur in the next few months once approval has been obtained from the relevant authorities,” he added.
Lourdsamy said there is also a suggestion to include a method to report any bullying or threat of violence and traffic accidents in the app.
He said the app would also allow users to submit crime prevention tips through text, photos and videos.
Meanwhile, En Xin Charity founder Lo Nyok Moi said she is helping the Orang Asli community to receive quality education through various programmes held by her organisation.
The organisation was set up in 2018 in Mantin.
Lo said En Xin Charity also takes care of refugees and disabled children throughout the country.
