Man arrested after road rage video goes viral


BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have detained a man believed to be involved in a road rage incident that happened on Jalan Permatang Janggus here.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng San said the suspect, who is in his 30s, was detained on Saturday (April 8), to facilitate an investigation into the incident that went viral on social media.

"We detected a video which was uploaded on social media and initial investigations found that the incident happened on Jalan Permatang Janggus towards Jalan Permatang Pauh.

"The date and time of the incident, however, have not been ascertained yet," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 9).

In the two-minute and 50-second video, a lorry and a car were seen bumping into each other on the road before both vehicles stop and a quarrel between the two drivers ensue.

The suspect is seen taking out an object from his car boot and smashing the number plate of the lorry before driving off.

It was not known whether the lorry driver suffered any injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.

"Police advise the public not to take action on their own which is against the law and can cause disharmony," said ACP Tan.
