KOTA KINABALU: The construction of the Penampang Health Clinic is expected to begin next year, says Datuk Ewon Bendedick.

The Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister said that he had received assurance from Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa that the delayed clinic planned would begin next year.

In a statement issued on Sunday (April 9), Ewon, who is also Penampang MP, said he had met with Dr Zaliha and Health Ministry officials to discuss issues pertaining to the delays for the construction of the Class 3 clinic.

"We want to speed up the construction and provide health services to the people in Penampang soonest," he said after meeting with Dr Zaliha who was in the state on Saturday (April 8) to get updates on the delayed Papar hospital building project and visited clinics in the city.

He said the Sabah Public Works Department would be managing the project and would call for tenders, a process that could take about six months.

Ewon said that Penampang clinic was among the high-priority projects he has outlined for the district.

Other projects are for flood mitigation, school projects, the Pan-Borneo Highway as well as moving Penampang's Donggongon tamu (market) to a new building site.

"I am committed to ensuring the projects promised will be delivered within the current term," he said, adding that several new projects including the entrepreneurship hub will be implemented.
