KOTA KINABALU: A proposal to the state government is being made to build an 8,100ha industrial park and a new port at Kimanis in the southwestern Beaufort district.
A local group, Kina Ventures Sdn Bhd, and an investor group from Taiwan plan to work together to put in place the RM10bil Sabah International Industrial Park and the new port projects under a joint venture with the Sabah government.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was briefed on the proposal during a courtesy call by Kina Ventures chairman Datuk Maijol Mahap, who met with Taiwanese investors at the former’s office in Menara Kinabalu here.
According to the project proponents, the proposed industrial park is meant for both local and foreign investors to set up their manufacturing and processing factories, stores, and industrial shop offices, among other things.
They also want to develop a commercial square as well as residential developments.
During the briefing, it was said that the entire development will have a gross development value of RM200bil when completed, apart from providing jobs and revenue for the state.
Hajiji said as part of its policy to be investor-friendly, the state government welcomed investors who want to put money into the state.
Another business group, Megaworld Vest Sdn Bhd, and Gezhouba Group from China, have offered to form a joint venture to build a RM4bil hydropower generation plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) in Liwagu, Ranau.
The group briefed Hajiji on the proposal, which was in line with the state government’s plan to build more renewable energy facilities to gradually replace the present gas- and diesel-fired power plants.
Gezhouba is the main contractor that built the 22,500MW Three Gorges Dam in China, the world’s biggest hydropower facility in terms of installed capacity.
Megaworld Vest chairman Datuk Seri Arsit Sedi led the delegation in their meeting with Hajiji.
