Man remanded over probe into false income statement for disability allowance

SEREMBAN: A 39-year-old man has been remanded to assist a probe over the submission of a false income statement to a district Welfare Department for him to be eligible for disability allowance.

Magistrate Naziah Mohd Alias allowed the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the suspect to be remanded until March 18.

The suspect had allegedly claimed for the allowance although he did not qualify as his monthly salary was higher than the eligibility requirement.

It is learnt that the suspect, who is currently jobless, committed the offence between 2013 and 2022 and received an allowance of between RM300 and RM450 a month.

The suspect was detained when he turned up for questioning at the state MACC office on Monday (March 13).

When contacted, state MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the case, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act.
