CYBERJAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah officiated the RM508.8mil Hospital Cyberjaya, which is the first platinum-rated government hospital under the Green Building Index certification.
The accolade is based on energy efficiency, water use and environmentally friendly materials through effective waste separation.
Also in attendance were Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni were also present.
After the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin proceeded to visit the Radiology Department, outpatient pharmacy and Paediatric Ward.
Built on a 5.18ha land, the hospital was handed over by the contractor to the Finance Ministry and Health Ministry on June 30, 2021, and began operations in November last year.
In her speech read out by Lukanisman, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Hospital Cyberjaya had the potential to become a primary responding hospital, in terms of preparedness to face any disaster at the country’s entry points, namely KLIA and KLIA2.
The Health Minister said this was due to its strategic location while the Sepang International Circuit and the Cyberjaya Silicon Valley could also benefit from the hospital’s health services.
“We are scrutinising the need to provide a magnetic resonance imaging machine to meet current needs, as well as its role as the reference hospital for any disaster incidents at KLIA,” she said.
Dr Zaliha said the construction of the hospital, among others, was aimed at reducing the bed occupancy rate (BOR) of hospitals in the Klang Valley, as well as easing congestion at hospitals in Serdang, Kajang and Putrajaya.
According to her, the current bed utilisation rate in public hospitals in the districts of Sepang and Hulu Langat, especially Hospital Kajang, is over 90% while the BOR for Hospital Serdang and Hospital Ampang is over 80%.
She said the nine-storey Hospital Cyberjaya was a major specialist hospital, which provides advanced specialist services with eight operating theatres, 10 delivery rooms and a capacity of 288 beds.
“Insya Allah, the hospital will benefit about 282,000 residents in Sepang, including areas of Dengkil and Labu,” she said.
Dr Zaliha said they were also looking into establishing geriatric treatment services and psychiatric services at the hospital, taking into account the trend of increasing number of senior citizens and mental illness among the people.
