A GROUP of Indian folk musicians led by the Ipoh-based Sebasthiyar Kalaikkodam will attempt a record-setting performance of folk music, Malaysia Nanban reported.
It’s founder, Iruthayam Seban-sthiyar, said that a 30-minute performance will attempt to have the most number of folk musicians play at the same time.
He said so far, more than 500 Indian folk musicians and students from around the country have signed up to participate in the event scheduled for April 16 in Ipoh.
The attempt, the first involving Indian folk music in the country, is supported by the Ipoh Hindu Devasthana Paribalana Sabha.
The report said that Sabha chairman M. Vivekananda would help finance the event, which will be included in the Malaysia Book of Records if successful.

He has also received awards in Nepal, Turkiye, Bangladesh and the Philippines and was awarded the prestigious Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Young Achiever Award in India.
