'First 100 days? Running a state is a marathon not a sprint,' says Perak MB

IPOH: Managing a state is not a 100m sprint but a marathon, says Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).

Asked to comment on the first 100 days in office of the state unit government, Saarani said he was not fond of such short-term "reviews" because he seriously questioned what could be achieved in that period.

"But what I can say is that during this period, state exco meetings are held weekly like normal, and in fact many working papers were approved at those meetings.

"The more papers are approved, the more issues we solve, and the more revenue we can collect," he told reporters after planting trees and launching an early warning system for water surge phenomena at the Kledang Saiong Eco-Park here on Monday (Feb 27).

Saarani added that evaluation of executive council members' performance is conducted from time to time, and improvements made.

"There are no problems in relation to the performance of exco members.

"We do not (look for) weaknesses in people, but the advantages. Neither do we (look for) differences but, find the similarities instead.

"Although there are differences of opinion at times, this is absolutely normal, but in the end what matters is a collective decision is made," he added.
