GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has received an invitation from Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to attend a meeting to discuss the upcoming state elections.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the meeting, initiated by Selangor, will be held on Feb 23.
"The meeting will revolve around one main issue which is the coordination of important dates such as the dissolution of state assemblies, and to facilitate the dates to hold state elections simultaneously (which will be decided by the Election Commission)," he said during a press conference at Komtar on Monday (Feb 20).
Chow said the invitation by the Selangor MB was also extended to Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, but he is not sure whether the state leaders will attend the meeting.
When asked when the state Pakatan Harapan will meet Penang Barisan Nasional leaders to discuss the state polls, Chow, who is also the state Pakatan chairman, said any official meeting with Barisan will have to wait.
"Any meeting with Barisan will only be after the Pakatan component meeting first, as we will decide how to continue," he said, adding that the state Pakatan meeting will decide on how to proceed the discussion with Barisan.
He said the Pakatan central leadership has given the green light to the states to discuss with their new allies at the state level, but so far, they have not begun any discussion and it will commence when everyone is able to attend the meeting.
The six states did not dissolve their state assemblies to hold the state polls along with the parliamentary polls in the 15th General Election on Nov 19, 2022.
The six state assemblies are set to automatically dissolve on various dates between June and August.
