FEARING that the pau (buns) made by his daughter would be confiscated once he crossed the Causeway, a father from Negri Sembilan spent 1.5 hours at Larkin Sentral in Johor Baru eating all five of them before continuing his journey, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The man’s tale touched the hearts of many netizens after he shared his story on social media.

The man, whose handle on Facebook is Maxkeong Menkeong, said his 14-year-old daughter was worried that he would go hungry once he reached Singapore and personally made five pau filled with meat, curry and potatoes for him.

Maxkeong did not have the heart to tell her that food containing poultry was not allowed to be brought into Singapore from Malaysia.

“My child... Next time, making just two or three (pau) will be enough. Papa will already be full,” he wrote, adding that it took him an hour and a half to finish all the pau.

The father said he was shocked to find five pau when he opened the container but appreciated his daughter’s gesture all the same.

“Papa loves you!” he said.

When interviewed, Maxkeong revealed that he worked for SBS Transit, a public transport company in Singapore.

Originally from Seremban, he started working in Singapore eight years ago.

“I will return to my family in Malaysia once every one to two months. I feel reluctant to leave them every time I have to return to work in Singapore,” he said.

Many netizens admitted that they were deeply moved by the daughter’s gesture.

“It is so touching. Normally, it is the parents who prepare food for their children. It is rare for children to cook for their parents. This means your child loves you.

“It’s all worth it knowing you have an obedient child,” one netizen wrote.

According to the Singapore Food Authority, only travellers from certain countries, including the United Kingdom and Australia, are allowed to bring food containing poultry into the country.

Travellers from Malaysia are not allowed to bring poultry, but they can bring chicken eggs.

> Malaysian singer Victor Wong Pin Kuan’s house became the envy of netizens after he revealed that his living room was spacious enough for a table tennis match, reported China Press.

The 50-year-old recently posted a video of himself engaging in an enthusiastic match of table tennis against his son Jayden on Instagram.

“I didn’t expect this (dinner table) to be used mostly for ping pong. Jayden’s and my own skills were honed using it,” he said.

Wong, who is now based in Taiwan, has been married for 11 years to a woman known only as Jennifer, and the couple have a son and a daughter.
