Authorities told to probe FB post defaming PM

In a Facebook post, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said this was an old photo taken in 2019 before the fall of the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police have been asked to investigate a Facebook user over a post that allegedly defamed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the owner of the Facebook account was found to have malicious intent and deliberately created a negative perception of the Prime Minister by sharing an old photo.

“This Facebook owner had used an old photo (which also features my friend Abd Rahman Yusof, who died on June 8, 2021).

“I have requested MCMC and the police to immediately investigate the matter,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The photo, which showed Anwar and several other individuals being served two large trays of food, was accompanied by a caption saying that the public had to be content with Menu Rahmah and told to be thrifty, but the ministers ate camel meat.

Menu Rahmah is an initiative started by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry last week. It offers RM5 meals or below at 15,000 eateries nationwide. — Bernama
