THE Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kabaddi Club collaborated with the Johor Kabaddi Association to conduct a workshop attended by over 100 secondary school students, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The one-day workshop, which took place in Skudai, was attended by both male and female students keen to learn about the traditional South Asian contact sport.
Johor-based kabaddi trainer MS Prakash conducted the workshop and shared the history of the ancient sport, which even has links to the ancient epic Mahabharata.
After the workshop, the students got to witness exhibition matches between kabaddi teams from schools in Pasir Gudang and Johor Baru.
Lecturer and club adviser Prof Dr Kamalahasan, who spoke at the workshop, said the sport had a long-celebrated history and the two entities should continue working together to promote it to students.
Johor Kabaddi Association chairman M. Chandran meanwhile said they had been fortunate to be able to teach students from all around the country.

The man, identified as Balamurugan from the Karivalamvanthanallur in Tenkasi, was said to had fallen in love with a woman from a different caste. When he married her despite objections over their caste differences, he was ostracised by the village.
Recently, when he went to the village’s temple festival, he was forced by a group of men to prostrate himself in public as an apology.
Police opened an investigation into the incident following a report by the victim and arrested four men.
