Two missing after boat ferrying them to hospital capsizes in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Two men on their way to the hospital are missing after their boat capsized along the swollen Tagas Tagas river in Sabah's central Tongod district.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman said that the men, one identified as Chong Yong Fit and the other only as Darus, remained missing following the 8am incident at Sabah Palm Tongod on Thursday (Feb 2).

The spokesman said that a distress call made at about 12.20pm said that the boat's fuel jerrycan and a victim's personal bag were found on the river bank.

"The caller informed us that victims took a boat to hospital at Beluran town at about 8am," he said, adding that the caller told them that they found the personal belongings at about 8.30am.

Firemen and policemen carrying out flood monitoring at the villages in the Pamomol area have gone to the area to carry out search operations.

Beluran has been hit by floods with some 47 people from nine families having been evacuated from two villages.
