PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 258 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Jan 28), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,035,871 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 256 of Saturday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while two imported infections were logged.
Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 309 patients recovering on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,989,435 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 9,496 active cases currently in the country, with 9,109, or 95.9%, observing home quarantine.
The KKMNow portal reported that 387 patients, or 4.08% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 17, with 14 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 63.5%, with nine states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 107.1%, followed by Kelantan (84.9%), Melaka (78.6%), Kuala Lumpur (78.4%), Selangor (76.1%), Johor (73.2%), Perak (64.2%), Kedah (62.2%) and Sabah (62.1%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that two Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday with one classified as Brought in Dead (BID).
This brings the death toll to 36,940.
