THE Tamilar Munnetra Kazhagam NGO has submitted a memorandum and a petition with 1,244 signatures to the Prime Minister’s Office urging action in the Hindu cemetery land issue in Sri Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Kazhagam president Sri Ramesh said the cemetery was originally given 1.7ha of land but it was taken away in 2017 for the Islamic cemetery nearby and a replacement land of about 5ha was allocated to the Hindu cemetery.

However, last year only 1.6ha of the promised 5ha was gazetted for the cemetery. And even that has been reduced further to 1.2ha this year.

The Kazhagam has submitted a memorandum to the Selangor mentri besar’s office over the matter but no action was taken.

They submitted another memorandum to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s special officer for Indian affairs Datuk Seri Ramesh Rao who had promised to help resolve the matter.

But Ramesh died earlier this month, leaving the matter in limbo.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s secretary, who accepted the memorandum in Putrajaya on his behalf, promised to bring the matter to his attention, Sri Ramesh said.
