KOTA KINABALU: Minor landslips, impassable roads and damaged houses were reported following floods in many parts of Sabah after almost a week of heavy downpour.

The number of evacuees rose to a total of 6,453 as of yesterday evening – from just a few hundred on Wednesday – with victims coming from the districts of Paitan, Pitas, Kudat, Kota Marudu and Lahad Datu.

Kota Marudu has the highest number of evacuees at 4,789, followed by Kudat with 739 victims, Pitas with 554 evacuees, and Paitan with 371.

Flood waters are receding in Lahad Datu and Kudat, but Paitan and Pitas are still seeing a gradual rise in the number of evacuees. The situation remains unchanged in Kota Marudu.
