A TEACHER in India has been conducting classes for a single student in a rural school for two years, Makkal Osai reported.

The remote farming village of Ganeshpur located in Washim, Maharashtra is home to just 150 people.

Karthik Shegokar, who is in Standard 3, is the only student in the village’s school.

Teacher Kishore Mangkar travels 12km through gravel and earthen roads every day to reach the school. The single student receives all the benefits provided by the government, including the daily school lunch.

Kishore said he was willing to travel daily to the school to ensure his student does not get left behind. There are no plans to shutter the school – at least, not until Karthik completes his schooling there.

> The water and electricity supply problems that have delayed the opening of SJK (T) Ladang Pertang’s new building are headed towards resolution, Makkal Osai also reported. The school’s new two-story building in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan, which was started in 2014, was completed at a cost of RM8.5mil.

However, the water and power supply could not be connected due to problems obtaining approval for excavation works from the Jelebu district council.

Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, who met with Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan officials to discuss the matter, contacted council officials immediately to expedite the approval process.
