Perak govt outlines five core initiatives for 2023

IPOH: The state government has outlined five important focuses for Perak this year, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Mentri Besar said the five core points were to increase revenue and economic competitiveness, strengthen the delivery system, empower peoples’ self-reliance and capacity, the inclusion of initiatives and digital infrastructure, and conserving environmental sustainability.

Touching on the first focus, Saarani said there is a need to strengthen the basics of economics in order to face the uncertainty which lies ahead.

As for the second focus, he said the government needs to create progressive measures to stimulate the economy in addition to increasing the efficiency of revenue collection.

“In order to strengthen the work culture, we must possess in us the sense of crisis, empathy and urgency.

“These three elements we must face due to the uncertain economic environment, as well as the demands and expectations of the people increasing every day,” he said in his executive talk held for the New Year with the civil servants at a hotel here on Thursday (Jan 26).

Saarani added as for the third focus, the state government would also be focusing on increasing farming areas by providing incentives in terms of infrastructure development and purchase of agricultural products.

He also hoped that the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Commission would re-examine the new telecommunications tower construction projects.

He said currently, for Perak, only 75 out of the targeted 176 sites have been completed.

“I hope that the cooperation between the Federal Government and the state government will continue to be strengthened so that we can transform Perak into a state driven by technology and digitisation,” he added.

Saarani said Perak is also committed to its efforts to lead in terms of resource sustainability and the environment.

He said the Perak Sustainable Plan 2030 aims to provide guidance for the formation of policies, initiatives and sustainability agenda.

“Although there are times when we face criticism, especially during exploration activities for economic purposes, Perak is consistent with its stance to adhere to the responsibility of conserving natural resources and state treasures.

“In that context, various initiatives have been carried out to achieve, and further maintain the forested area at least 50% in line with the development of the state taking into consideration economic, social and environmental factors,” he added.
