Dr Wee rushes from KL to Ayer Hitam to visit flood victims

PETALING JAYA: After starting work at MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Jan 26) morning, party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong rushed back to his constituency in Ayer Hitam, Johor to attend to those affected by the floods.

He said at least 71 families and 271 residents within the Yong Peng district had been identified as flood victims and moved to temporary relief centres since Jan 22.

Accompanied by Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, Dr Wee also visited three relief centres in Ayer Hitam.

“Volunteers from the Ayer Hitam parliamentary and Yong Peng state assembly service centres began sending food and necessities to victims as soon as the centres were set up.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the flood victims,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The flood situation in Johor saw an improvement as of 4pm, with some temporary relief centres closing and the number of evacuees going down to 5,111 from 5,427 at 2pm.
