JOHOR BARU: A 47-year-old company director was remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of being a proxy to obtain a project from a government-linked company (GLC) amounting to over RM1mil four years ago.
The man, who works as a private company director, has been arrested, and the anti-graft body obtained a four-day remand order that began yesterday.
The order was granted by Magistrate R. Salini.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
According to sources, the man was detained at the Johor MACC Office at about 11.35pm on Monday after giving his statement.
It is learnt that he was a proxy for a GLC director in obtaining contracts from the GLC company.
Meanwhile, MACC senior director of investigation Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.
In Putrajaya, Bernama reported that another company director has been remanded for four days starting yesterday to facilitate investigations into alleged false claims worth about RM92mil linked to the construction of a building in Kuala Terengganu.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued the remand order, which ends this Friday, against the 64-year-old man following an application by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
MACC sources told Bernama that the man was arrested at the commission headquarters here at about 3.45pm yesterday to assist in the investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
According to the source, the company director was thought to have helped validate claims with false material details about mechanical and electrical work on the construction project, even though the work hadn’t been fully carried out.
