JOHOR BARU: Local businesses are experiencing a surge in sales, with Singaporeans coming over to buy food and decorations ahead of Chinese New Year. Some shop owners at malls said they had seen profits rise more than 20% from their lunar new year sales, which started earlier this week.

Mr Sotong sales executive William Mak said about half of his customers were from Singapore and the best-selling product was their sugared dried cuttlefish.
