Cook charged with killing mental care patient


KUALA KUBU BARU: A Bangladeshi cook has been charged in a Magistrate’s Court here with the murder of a male resident at a mental healthcare centre in Bukit Beruntung on Christmas Eve.

Mohammad Abdul Alim, 33, is accused of killing Leong Kam Ming, 52, at the mental healthcare centre in Jalan Cempaka 2, Bukit Beruntung, at about 6.30pm on Dec 24, 2022.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Mohammad nodded after the charges were read out to him before magistrate Siti Fatimah Talib. No plea was recorded.

In the same court, Mohammad also pleaded not guilty to a charge of entering and being in the country without valid travel documents at the same location at 2.23am on Dec 27, 2022.

This charge is made in accordance with Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 Amendment 2002 and is punishable under Section 6(3) with a fine of up to RM10,000, a jail term of up to five years or both, and can be whipped not more than six times.
