KUALA LUMPUR: The public should be mindful of an adver- tisement on social media that offers driving licences without having to attend classes or tests, said Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim.
He said the advertisement featured the image of a woman as its profile picture on social media.
“This syndicate makes a profit by deceiving victims and then disappearing after they receive the money.
“The advertisement leads people to believe that they can get a licence without attending driving school. There is nothing of this sort,” he said after a New Year’s Eve integrated operation at the Gombak toll plaza yesterday.
Zailani said JPJ would work with the Communications and Digital Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to track down the syndicate.
“The syndicate knows that the authorities are monitoring them, so they often change their links every four to six months,” he told Bernama.
Meanwhile, Zailani said 3,481 summonses were issued for various traffic offences during the integrated operation, which was held simultaneously throughout the country from 9pm to midnight yesterday.
A total of 12,234 vehicles were inspected in the operation, which focused on driving licences, road taxes, insurance, and cloned vehicles, he said.
“We also confiscated 69 vehicles, consisting of 56 motorcycles, 12 cars and one other vehicle,” he said, adding that over 200 enforcement officers were involved in the operation, including the police, Immigration Depart-ment, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Department of Environment.
