JOHOR BARU: Unsold properties and abandoned housing projects in the state will be addressed in a meeting between Johor and Putrajaya, says Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
The Deputy Local Government Development Minister said the matter was brought up during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit here on Friday.
“Both Anwar and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi discussed the property overhang, including abandoned housing projects in the state, especially within the Johor Baru area.
“Onn has told state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor to conduct a meeting with the ministry,” he added.
Akmal Nasrullah, who is also the Johor Baru MP, said this when met after handing out assistance to some 50 needy families at Kam- pung Melayu Majidee here yesterday.
He added that the meeting with the state government would be held at the ministry within the next two to three weeks.
“Through the meeting, we are hoping to zoom into the problem and come up with a detailed solution so we can move forward from this problem,” he said.
Earlier this month, Mohd Jafni said the Malaysian My Second Home (MM2H) programme could reduce the number of overhang properties in the state.
He added that more than 80% of the unsold properties in Johor were service apartments, with an average price of between RM500,000 and RM1mil.
