30 bodies in landslide tragedy identified

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty bodies recovered from the Batang Kali landslide have been identified.

The 31st body – that of a boy, believed to be 11-year-old Eng Shao Qi - was found yesterday.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), their identities were obtained through four methods, namely DNA matching, fingerprints, dental records and identification by the next-of-kin through personal belongings and marks on bodies.

The bodies have been handed over to their kin by the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensics Department upon completion of the post-mortem, Bernama reported.

“Any information on the victims will be updated after being verified,” Nadma said in a statement.

A total of 61 campers survived the landslide at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite at 2.42am on Dec 16.

A total of 31 people, aged between one and 67, were killed in the tragedy.

Among them were 12 children, including six girls, and 18 adults, including six men.
