Man killed in drunken brawl in JB


JOHOR BARU: A drunken brawl between two men resulted in one of them being killed in front of the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) office on Jalan Sungai Segget here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said a member of the public contacted the police about a fight in the city centre here at around 9.40pm on Friday (Dec 23).

“Police arrived at the location at around 10.24pm where a man, in his 50’s, was found lying unconscious on the road due to severe injuries.

“A medical team from Sultanah Aminah Hospital that arrived at the scene confirmed the victim’s death,” he said here on Saturday (Dec 24).

ACP Raub added that police then arrested a 34-year-old suspect with the help from the public to assist with investigation over the case.

He said further checks on the suspect’s background showed he has five criminal records and two drug records against him.

“Initial police investigation so far found that both the suspect and victim were intoxicated and having a heated conversation.

“The suspect had punched and kicked the victim on his face and head causing serious injuries. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he added.

ACP Raub also thanked members of the public for helping police arrest the suspect, and solving the case within 24 hours.
