PETALING JAYA: Structural economic reforms to stimulate growth and strengthen the country's economic foundations will be the government’s priority, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said they will take action immediately and implement short- and long-term approaches in response to the current challenges of the economy including slow global growth, conflicts and geopolitical problems and disruptions to the food supply chain.
“My efforts will be made to ensure that economic structural reforms are implemented in an orderly manner to stimulate growth and strengthen the foundations of the country's economy.
“Attracting quality investment, transitioning to a low-carbon economy, improving social protection, strengthening fiscal resilience are among the approaches and measures taken,” he said in a Facebook post Thursday (Dec 15) after visiting Bank Negara Malaysia for a briefing on the prospects, challenges and focus of the country's current economic policy.
Anwar was accompanied by Deputy Finance Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Steven Sim as well as senior officials of the Finance Ministry.
