IPOH: When a couple quit their jobs to start a roast duck business here three years ago, they did not expect so many customers to love the dish.

Former Bernama TV broadcast journalist Amira Hanis Mohd Asri, 33, and her husband Razman Nazrin Shah Abdul Aziz, 34, who is a former assistant stage manager at Pak Ngah Production, returned to their hometown here to start their business.

“My husband loves to cook and always makes roast duck for the family, so I suggested that we sell it because of the high demand.

“We tried to sell it online before opening a stall in Ipoh.

“Alhamdulillah, starting from a humble stall, we now operate entirely in a restaurant,” she told Bernama at her restaurant, Ipoh Smokey Roasted Duck, at Jelapang Trade Centre 2.

Amira Hanis said their special item is the Smokey Roasted Duck set, with slices of roasted duck breast served with rice, coleslaw, salad and garlic sauce.

Other items in their menu include duck rice, chicken rice as well as duck and chicken wantan stuffed with fresh meat every day to guarantee the quality and halal status of the food.

“We tried several times to get the real taste of Hong Kong-style roast duck that is marinated in a mixture of five types of selected spices.

“The process of roasting duck and chicken also requires patience to ensure its crispiness on the outside and juiciness on the inside,” she explained.

Amira Hanis said her restaurant went viral on social media after an administrator of a Facebook page (MohKeIpoh, Oh my Perak) ordered food from her and promoted her business.

“We are happy because we have multiracial customers. We also receive many takeaway orders every day,” she added.
