TWO goats which escaped from a barbecue outlet in China have been given a new role as mascots for the restaurant, China Press reported.

It all happened when a motorist spotted the animals while driving through a tunnel in Chongqing city.

The man stopped to take a video of them and the clip went viral.

Another road user made a police report. Soon, officers brought the runaway goats back to the station.

The shop owner rushed to the police station to claim his animals.

Following public interest in the case, the shop owner promised not to slaughter them.

Instead, the goats will serve as mascots for the shop.

The two goats were part of a group of three that tried to flee.

An employee managed to capture one before it could escape.

Many Internet users remarked that the one which failed to run off was likely to have ended up on someone’s dinner plate.

“Only the two which escaped managed to change their lives,” one netizen wrote.

> King of Mandopop Jay Chou, who is known for his disdain for paparazzi, was uncharacteristically friendly to those trailing him recently and even offered to buy them gifts, Sin Chew Daily reported.

He was shopping at a Chanel outlet store in Taipei with his actress wife Hannah Quinlivan when the couple realised that they were being photographed.

Chou, 43, called out to the paparazzi, saying: “You don’t have to take pictures in hiding anymore! Come in and pick a few things that you like. I will pay for them as my wife is a friend of the brand.”

The report did not say whether the photographers took up Chou’s offer. It is believed that they did not treat his invitation seriously.

Chou and Quinlivan, 29, spent more than two hours in the store before leaving with two large bags.

A Chanel spokesperson said Quinlivan was a brand ambassador and that the two would often shop there.

In the past, Chou was known to call paparazzi “dogs” and give them the middle finger whenever he bumped into them.
