CAAM accepts resignation of CEO Chester Voo

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority (CAAM) has accepted the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Capt Chester Voo.

In a statement on Wednesday (Dec 14), the CAAM said Capt Voo has tendered his resignation letter, and this has been accepted by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, with his last day of service on 31st December 2022.

"Our Authority Members wished to inform us that Capt Voo had expressed his intent to shorten his tenure as the CEO of CAAM in October 2022.

"The Authority fully understands and respects his request, however, after careful consideration, the Authority has requested for his departure from CAAM to be deferred to the 31st of December 2022.

"This postponement is to enable CAAM to undertake a smooth transition process and have an effective handover to the eventual successor for this position," it said, adding that to ensure positive continuity, Capt Voo agreed and together with the senior management of CAAM, have prepared a complete 2023 strategic plan for CAAM to implement moving forward.

It added that since his appointment in June 2020, Capt Voo provided valuable leadership to CAAM management.

"Under his leadership, CAAM has made notable achievements which are reflected in CAAM’s current position as an effective aviation safety and security regulator and air navigation service provider for Malaysia.

"The Authority is positive with the transformation that the organisation has gone through in the past two and a half years, CAAM is on the right course in carrying out our main roles to oversee and promote safety in the country’s aviation industry and provide world-class air navigation services," it said, adding that the authority would continue to keep the momentum strong, following various accomplishments CAAM has achieved under the leadership of Capt Voo.

It said this includes regaining Category 1 rating of the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (US FAA), the launch of the new Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC), the introduction of CAAM’s first client charter and the successful organisational restructuring of CAAM.

"CAAM will continue with the various initiatives and efforts to ensure its role as the regulatory body for the country’s civil aviation industry is maintained in line with international requirements.

"The Authority wishes to express our sincere appreciation to Capt Chester for his unstinting dedication, passion, remarkable work, and contributions made throughout his service with CAAM and we wish him the very best in all his future endeavours," it said.
