IPOH: An unemployed man has been remanded for six days for robbing a goldsmith shop on Jalan Sultan Iskandar here with a toy gun.
The remand order for the suspect, who is from Seremban, was obtained by the police at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
The 32-year-old suspect, who suffered a broken left arm from a fall while attempting to flee the shop, will be investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
According to Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan, the suspect was arrested near Jalan Dato Onn Jaafar at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.
“Two policemen from the Pasir Puteh station went to the location after receiving information on the incident and saw a man, believed to be the suspect, being chased by several people.
“He was arrested with the help of policemen from the Pekan Baru station,” ACP Yahaya said in a statement.
“During the arrest, we also seized the plastic toy pistol which the suspect had placed in his slingbag.”
ACP Yahaya said the suspect had entered the shop at about 2pm on the pretext of wanting to buy a gold chain.
“After seeing the chain, the suspect grabbed it before aiming his toy gun at the shop employee.
“He then ran out of the shop,” he said, adding that the case was solved within 30 minutes.
