PAS hits back over gambling revenue allegations

PETALING JAYA: PAS has continued to hit out at the Prime Minister over his recent remarks on Perikatan Nasional’s source of funding and the recent general election.

“People who live in glass houses should not throw stones,” PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said in response to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks suggesting that Perikatan was funded by gambling revenue.

Abdul Hadi said the PAS state government shut down gambling premises in Kelantan in the 1990s, but added that gambling licences were issued by Anwar, who was finance minister at the time.

The recent allegations were illogical as it would have been “stupid” of gambling firms to finance PAS, which Pakatan Harapan had accused of being like the Taliban, the Marang MP said yesterday.

He said PAS had acted against gambling firms in the states under its control by shutting them down.
