Terengganu open to joint state elections

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu is open to discussion with other states on holding their state elections simultaneously to save on costs, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

He said at the moment, no formal discussions have been held among the six states involved – Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang.

However, he said that there had been casual discussions on the matter.

“We will try to find the time and place for a formal discussion to synchronise the dissolution of the state assemblies,” he was quoted as saying after an event at Wisma Darul Aman here yesterday.

Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan are led by Pakatan Harapan, while Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan are under PAS’ administration.

During the 15th General Election, the six states did not dissolve their respective state assemblies to make way for state polls, which would have been held at the same time.
