Five nabbed for taking World Cup bets in Klang

KLANG: Police have arrested five men in connection with World Cup bet-taking activities.

North Klang OCPD Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao said as of Tuesday (Dec 6), the five were nabbed following five raids within an area here.

"We launched the Op Soga to detect and eradicate gambling and betting activities here involving the 2022 World Cup between Nov 19 and Dec 21.

"We opened a total of five investigation papers so far under Section 6(1) and Section 6(3) of the Betting Act so far," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said police also seized five mobile phones, a computer, a modem, a game schedule for the 2022 World Cup.

"We also found software used for betting with a RM200,000 credit limit.

"We will use provisions of the law under the Betting Act and the Common Gaming Houses Act to catch and prosecute bookies and punters," he said.

He added that those arrested have been remanded to facilitate further investigations and the investigation papers would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office soon.
