Woman escapes with minor injuries after nasty collision with lorry


MELAKA: A woman narrowly escaped death after her car collided with a lorry at the Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin Highway (AMJ) near Kandang here.

According to the woman's husband, she was returning back to the city centre from Jasin after business hours on Monday (Nov 28) when the accident happened.

Her husband Zakaria Ibrahim shared on Facebook that she, Maizatul Mad Said, 49, a kuih seller, was in Melaka Hospital for a follow-up check and that she was fine.

The Facebook post which had a picture of the badly damaged car received about 1,000 responses.

Facebook users who responded to the post wanted to know whether there were survivors in the crash.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the accident happened at 5.30pm on Monday (Nov 28).

He said Maizatul, from Felda Chemomoi Triang, Pahang, only sustained minor injuries.

"The victim was returning back to the city centre from Jasin after business hours when the accident happened," he said on Tuesday (Nov 29).

ACP Christopher Patit said the car rammed into the rear of a truck that was making a "U-turn" at a traffic light junction at (AMJ).

He said the victim sustained minor injuries to her hand and legs.

He added the accident was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Maizatul was believed to have been on her way to Klebang here after visiting her child who is studying at a college in Jasin when she rammed into the truck along the stretch.
