MALAYSIAN singer Gary Chaw, infamous for his drunken antics in public, became a trending topic on Chinese social media because of his astrology sign shortly after the announcement of his divorce, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The term “Gary Chaw is also a Cancerian” became the 15th most-searched term on Weibo on Nov 26 after users linked his tendency for public outbursts to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, who shares the same sign and was recently divorced from Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu.

Wang, currently embroiled in a public spat with Hsu who successfully sued him in court for failing to pay alimony, recently ascribed his less-than-stellar behaviour to his star sign.

“I’m a Cancerian, (hence) I’m really anxious,” Wang wrote on social media.

His response became an online meme and Internet users began scouring for male celebrities born between June 22 and July 22, and found Hong Kong comic Stephen Chow, “God of Songs” Jacky Cheung, singer Li Ronghao and actor Tony Leung among them.

Many users who were also Cancerians lamented their lot of being lumped together with Wang and Chaw.

The Sabahan-born Chaw and Wu Shuling, both 43, were married in 2008. They announced on Nov 26 that they were officially divorced.

The couple have two children.

> Chinese singer-actor Jing Boran and supermodel Liu Wen appear to be living together after they were spotted taking a PCR test together, reported China Press.

Paparazzi took shots of the two leaving an apartment in Shanghai together on Nov 26 evening before queueing up for the Covid-19 test.

However, the two allowed a few other people to queue in between them in what was believed to be an attempt at preventing others from photographing them together.

They left in a black SUV for a Japanese restaurant before returning home at around 11.30pm.

The photographs sparked speculation that the two were seriously dating. Jing and Liu have never publicly confirmed their relationship.

However, the 33-year-old Jing was caught riding a bicycle with Liu, 34, sitting at the back, in May, which sparked talk of a budding romance between them.

In July, the two were filmed holding hands while out on a double date with another celebrity couple.
