Assault case reclassified to murder as victim dies

MELAKA: Police here will reclassify the assault case on a father and son to murder following the death of the older man.

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the 50-year-old father died on Saturday after being in a coma for almost three weeks from his injuries.

He said police would make a recommendation to the deputy public prosecutor to reclassify the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He said the deceased, E. Murali Kuppusami, and his 19-year-old son MK Daniel were seriously injured in an attack on Oct 31.

Six foreigners were charged recently at the Sessions Court here under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.

No bail was granted to the six, who were factory workers.

The court had fixed Dec 21 as next mention date and to appoint an interpreter.

In the 10.40pm incident, the victims were brutally attacked by a group of men at an apartment in Ayer Keroh.

The six had attacked the father and son after the two asked them be quiet. The accused were living above the victims’ apartment.
