Covid-19 Watch: 2,898 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 66.7pc


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,898 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Nov 26), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,984,272 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 2,896 of Saturday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while two imported infections were logged.

There were 2,789 recoveries on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,920,616 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 27,008 active cases currently in the country, with 24,924, or 92.3%, observing home quarantine and 14 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The KKMNow portal reported that 2,070 patients, or 7.66% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 97, with 57 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 66.7%, with ten states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 80.8%, followed by Kelantan (80.3%), Selangor (79.6%), Melaka (76.8%), Perak (73.7%), Johor (72.3%), Penang (67.5%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%) and Sabah (62.9%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that four Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday.

This brings the death toll to 36,648.
